Getting Started

  • Viewing Tiff Images
Install a browser plug-in such as Alternatiff and a stand alone tiff viewer such as IrfanView or Brava. some maps are too large to view with a browser plug-in and will result in a black screen. If this happens, right click on the map link and save the image to your drive to open outside the browser. Make a folder on your drive to store them so you know where they are. Be sure to name the file when you download it. A good format for this is (county)_(district)_(map).tiff and should be ready to open with whatever viewer you have installed. Please see individual viewer documentation for further help. We are unable to answer questions regarding viewers and plug-ins, as they are not created by Seneca Technologies.

  • Signing In and Services
Enter your user name and password to access the subscription site. You will be able to access both the tax data and map index from there. Currently the map index is the same as the free maps site foiamaps.senecainfo.com but will soon have extended features and goodies for our subscribers. One enhancement will be the ability to click a link to download the available data for each particular map. We will also be adding some areas as kml files that can be viewed with Google Earth.

  • Rules
We are not responsible for the accuracy of the data. Data is obtained from state agencies, we just make it more useful for you. Your subscription is valid for one year, after that you will need resubscribe. Your subscription is for your use only. Do not share your login. We will use the honor system for now, but if we detect abuse, we reserve the right to lock your login to one computer. We're geeks, we can do that.

Search Screen

  • Uncheck
  • The Uncheck button clears all of the checkboxes. Once pressed it becomes the 'Check' button and will then recheck the checkboxes if pressed again. Items checked will show up in the results grid in the right frame. items shown in the results are available for export to Excel or printing.

  • County
  • Select the county from the dropdown list. If no county is selected, your search will encompass the entire state. selecting a county is highly recommended to narrow the result set. there is a limit of 500 records to display or export.

  • District
  • Selecting a district requires also selecting the county. The county will not be automatically filled in, so you must select it in the county dropdown. We will be automating this in the future, but for now, both must be selected if district is used.

  • Name
  • Names are listed last name first. You can use starts with or contains if you are unsure of spelling. Some long names are continued in the address1 field. This field is searchable through advanced search on the grid. (see below)

  • Tips
  • A good way to get a feel for the structure of the data is to select a county and district you are familiar with and look at the results, uncheck some boxes and look again. We will be adding search tutorials here soon.

The Grid Controls

  • First Prev Next Last First Previous Next Last
These controls let the user navigate through multiple pages on a grid. From left to right the buttons will move to the first page, move to the previous page, move to the next page and move to the last page of a results set. If you are on the first page of a results set, the move first and move previous buttons will display, but will not have active links. If you are on the last page of a results set, or if there is only one page the move next and move last buttons will display but will not have active links.

  • Drill Down Drill Down
This button toggles drill down on and off for the grid. When drill down is on the values for most fields turn into hyperlinks. Clicking on these hyperlinks sets a filter on the grid for all other fields that match the current value. You may see the exact information you want in your results and using this feature will allow you to quickly filter for other exact matches.

  • Advanced Search  Advanced Search
Opens an extended search page in the grid window. The initial search parameters are the same as your original search and from here you may add criteria. All fields are displayed in the advanced search, allowing access to the address fields, farm use, account number, etc.. This search defaults to a new search. You can select 'and' as well as 'or' for criteria. Generally, 'and' works best because you are searching within your current result set.

  • Print Print
The print function allows one click access to your browser's print functionality. A new window will open with ALL the data from the query displayed (no paging) and plain formatting (this may be a large file). For Internet Explorer users the print dialog will also appear after the page has been fully loaded. Keep in mind that there is a 500 record limit, so if your result set is 2300 records, you will only get the first 500.

  • Export Export to Excel Export to XML
These buttons will stream the entire record set as it is show on the screen as different export formats. Defined filter and sort criteria are retained, however paging is ignored. The entire record set is always set for export. For this reason, these buttons should be used with caution when dealing with large record sets. If the user attempts to export too much data at once, the transfer may fail. Note that Excel exports are really HTML streams with the MIME type set for the Microsoft spreadsheet.

  • Sort Links Sort Ascending Sort Descending
These two buttons appear beneath the every field name that may be sorted..

  • Filter Links Filter on This Field
These buttons appear below the names of every field except binary ones. Clicking on them will bring up a filter screen. This allows extended search on the selected field. As with advanced search, the default is 'reset'. Other options 'and' as well as 'or' are available.
